Butterfly Valves – Wafer, Lugged, Flanged and Grooved Type
Choosing the right butterfly valve is not simply a matter of selecting a valve size. The connection type, pressure rating, seat material, disc material and operating method all affect installation, sealing performance and service life.
As a professional butterfly valve manufacturer, we supply wafer, lugged, double flanged and grooved butterfly valves for water treatment, HVAC, fire protection, marine, chemical and general industrial piping systems.
Wafer Butterfly Valve
The Wafer Butterfly Valve is one of the most widely used and economical butterfly valve designs. Its compact body is installed between two pipe flanges and secured with through-bolts.
The wafer design takes up little space and is especially suitable for large-diameter pipelines where valve weight and installation cost need to be controlled. Common applications include water supply, cooling water, HVAC, irrigation and industrial process lines.
For fire protection systems, a Cast Iron Fireproof Wafer Butterfly Valve can be supplied with an appropriate fire-safe seat, stem sealing arrangement and supervisory switch. The valve configuration can be selected according to the applicable fire protection standard and project requirements.

Lug Butterfly Valve
A Lug Butterfly Valvehas threaded holes or lug inserts around the valve body. Unlike a Wafer Valve, the two sides of the valve can be bolted independently.
This makes the lug design useful where one side of the pipeline may need to be removed during maintenance. It is also commonly used for dead-end service and equipment isolation.
We supply lug butterfly valves in ductile iron, carbon steel and stainless steel, with lever handles, worm gear operators, electric actuators or pneumatic actuators.
For projects involving corrosive water or aggressive media, a Stainless Steel Lug Butterfly Valve can provide better corrosion resistance than standard cast or ductile iron construction.

Double Flanged Butterfly Valve
A Double Flanged Butterfly Valve has integral flanges on both ends of the valve body and is directly bolted to the pipeline flanges.
Compared with wafer and lug designs, the flanged connection provides a rigid and stable installation. It is commonly selected for large-diameter water pipelines, higher-pressure systems, pumping stations and industrial applications where reliable pipe alignment is important.
A Stainless Steel Flange Butterfly Valve is available for applications involving seawater, chemical media and other corrosive services. CF8, CF8M and duplex stainless steel can be selected according to the medium and operating conditions.

Grooved Butterfly Valve
The Grooved Butterfly Valve is designed for fast mechanical pipe installation. Instead of conventional flanges, bolts and gaskets, the valve connects to grooved pipe using mechanical couplings.
This connection method is widely used in commercial buildings, fire protection, HVAC and water distribution systems. Installation is generally faster, and the piping system can accommodate some movement and vibration.
A Rubber Coated Grooved Type Butterfly Valve is commonly used for water and general service. The resilient seat provides reliable shut-off while protecting the internal components from the working medium.

Butterfly Valve Materials and Seats
Valve material should be selected according to the working medium, temperature, pressure and installation environment. Typical body materials include ductile iron, cast iron, carbon steel and stainless steel.
For water applications, EPDM seats are commonly used. NBR is suitable for many oil-related services, while PTFE and other engineered materials can be considered for chemical or higher-temperature applications.
A Coating Disc U Section Type Butterfly Valve can be designed to reduce direct contact between the metal surface and the process medium.
High Performance Butterfly Valve
High Performance Butterfly Valves normally use a double-offset or triple-offset design. The offset disc reduces rubbing between the disc and seat during operation, which helps lower operating torque and extend seat life.
Manual and Automatic Butterfly Valves
A Motorized Butterfly Valve is fitted with an electric actuator for remote on/off or modulating control. Most actuator configurations use an ISO 5211 mounting pad, making it easier to match the valve with different actuator brands and models.
How to Select the Right Butterfly Valve
Before ordering a butterfly valve, we recommend confirming the following information:
- Valve size and connection standard
- Working pressure and temperature
- Pipeline flange or grooved connection
- Medium being handled
- Body and disc material
- Seat material
- Manual or automatic operation
- Electric or pneumatic actuator requirements
- Applicable standards and certifications
- Project quantity and delivery requirements
