What are butterfly valves used for?
butterfly valves are quarterturn rotary valves that are used to stop, start and regulate flow in different industries. Their small size, light weight, rapid operation and cost-benefit aspects make the butterfly valves a better solution than gate or ball valves in numerous large diameter applications that include municipal water, HVAC, chemical processing, oil & gas, power generation, and fire protection systems.
In general, a single piece hole orifice normally has a disc on a rotating shaft (think butterfly valve). When fully open, the disc is parallel to the flow and pressure drop is minimal. This simple system enables rapid shutoff and accurate throttling flow control. In terms of application, butterfly valves can be manual (lever or gear operated) or electric, pneumatic or hydraulic actuator operated.

Ductile Iron Grooved Type Butterfly Valvesaccording to ASTM A536 and Handle grooved end butterfly valves are tailored for water distribution and industrial pipeline applications and they combine the strength, dependability and long life of ductile iron with ease of assembly. The ends are grooved for quick coupling by using mechanical grooves, decreasing time of labor and allowing easier maintenance. The design of the valves is ductile iron, which provides high strength, and long life in the most severe environments.

Ductile Iron FireFight Wafer Butterfly Valve and Double Flanged Butterfly Valve configurations are commonly used in infrastructure projects for water mains, pump stations, and treatment plants. In high pressure systems, double flanged construction provides positive mounting and alignment, and ductile iron construction withstands the stresses of water hammer and external loads.

For small piping systems, or end-user connections, it is possible to rely on Cast Iron Lug Butterfly Valve and Manual Flange Type Butterfly Valve alternatives for a robust flow isolation. Lug-style valves are designed for dead-end service and allow for installation or removal without disruption to the flow in the adjacent pipes, making these the go-to solutions for modular systems.
Stainless steel options such as the Stainless Steel Flange Butterfly Valve are widely used in sanitary, marine and high purity applications requiring rust free operation and high levels of hygiene. While Rubber Coated Grooved Type Butterfly Valve offers the combination of corrosion resistance, noise suppression and tight sealing for use in drinking water and sewage application.
